I was expecting some improvement in sound but it is really noticeable. I now have DVD audio running in stereo through the aux input hard wired to the radio module directly. It sounds noticeably better than CDs and the 'old' radio. There is also finally plenty of line voltage getting to the amp and consequently it can be played very loudly now without breaking up.
While I was back there in the well I added a 150w sub amp and a 8" bazooka in the well which just happens to fit and hold itself firmly, while leaving 2" between the cone and the well wall. Put the spare tire cover back on and there is no trace of the equipment so I retained 100% of the storage space. Perfect. So now I have improved sound from the DVD, and all sources now have low bass that is severely lacking in OEM X5 system.
Thanks to the repository of articles and good discussions on this site I was able to save some cash by completing everything myself while managing to not kill myself or torch my car. Another donation has been sent. My trip to Hilton Head SC this weekend will be AWESOME now.
