You don't need to take the dynamic pack. Choose the bits out of it that you want. There are three major downsides:

1st: The X5 is limited to 130mph without the dynamic pack (do you really need the extra top speed?)
2nd: You cannot get the 213 or 214 style wheels in the uk without dynamic pack
3rd: Residuals on non-dynamic pack X5s will probably be lower (although that is hard to predict this far out - especially with the M-sport package coming later this year!)

I have specced my X5 with only the options I wanted from the dynamic pack and saved myself about £400 - however it is easily possible to spend more than the cost of the dynamic pack if you take all of the options seperately. I also have not specified the adaptive drive - an additional 2300 GBP was just pushing my budget too far - although I seriously considered it.

For what its worth I have actually chosen the sports suspension myself but then I like the tighter feel of the sports suspension versus the standard on the E53 (I have had two previous BMWs without it and they wallowed!). To some extent it is a gamble having not driven the E70 yet!
