I think any profession that has people's live's in their hands, should have to be schooled and tested regularly.
Commercial airline pilots need to go in for training every six months. Why not: doctors, nurses, police officers, contractors, etc.
For positions that involve "standards", real estate, law, accounting, etc. It should also be neccessary, maybe just not as frequently.
And, despite what the elderly think about discrimination. I think it is negligent not to re-test drivers at certain ages. If it's ok to tell people under the age of 17 they can't drive and people under the age of 21, they can't drink. I see no reason why we can't tell people at the age of 65, that they need to be RE-tested. and then every 3-5 years after that. It's not ageism, it's common sense.
-- And I just want to add, in the event this sparks an arguement. I am not suggesting that the elderly "lose" their license at a certain age, unless they can't pass the driving test. They only "lose" their license if they are not competant to drive.
