I use my 3.0d to pull my race car trailer. My Formula3 is small but for interstate races you end up taking most of the workshop and spares with you. The trailer is 30ft long and about 1600kg. The X5 pulls it easily and still gets at least 650km on a tank of diesel.

I have electric brakes so the trailer pretty much looks after itself stopping wise.
