Is it possible to make the suspension changes in a non-sport package X5?
I'm not sure what the exact differences are in the suspension specs between the SP and non-SP equipped 4.4's... but my guess would be that the springs are stiffer, and the anti-sway bars are thicker. That may be it - which means that it would not be a huge problem to achieve similar results after-market. But if you're a spirited driver, you'll definitely appreciate upgraded suspension one way or the other. (As for the wheels/tires, SP comes with different 18" wheels/tires, but they're still 18x8.5 / 255-55 17's - so not a big diff there... )
However, the SP also gives you some enhancements that are more difficult to get after market... namely, the FANTASTIC sport seats and steering wheel, as well as the sharp body/trim accents (titanium-colored grill inserts, etc.) Well worth the price of admission, if you ask me... I think you'll regret it if don't get the SP.
