the bobby ore method is your hands never leave the steering wheel, you slide it up and down. say you want to shuffle to the left. your left hand starts at 9 and grips the wheel tight to rotate the wheel down to 6. your right hand starts at 3 and slides down to 6 loosely. then you grip with your right as you rotate the wheel up to 12, left hand is loose and slides up to 12. that way, one hand is always turning the wheel while one is sliding, no wasted effort and no crossing hands. one hand is gripping and turning, the other is sliding...

traditional way of shuffle is cross over of hands.

in the race cars i've used, the steering wheel is locked at just 20 degrees of steering, thats about 1.25 revolutions of the steering wheel, so shuffling isn't really neccessary. in my car, if i have to cross hands to correct a slide, i'm beyond saving it...
