How do you explain that we have so many more of these types of incidents than most other countries, even when taken into account our high population??

Our murder rate per capita is so much higher than than almost any European or Asian country. The only countries with higher murder rates than ours are some 3rd world countries that are either in middle of civil war (like Columbia & Iraq) or are havens for organized crime.

When compared to other modernized industrialized nations, our murder rate is 5-10 times higher than most other countries. How would you explain that? Pure chance?
