I hear ya, G...I just don't get, in the practical sense, what one can
do with 180+ mph vs 175 mph, or any extra 2/10s to 60 from a rolling
start. Any of these cars that some of us have, will walk 99% of the
cars on the planet that we see in daily driving. And, except for a
track run, none of us will ever put our rides to the limit on any street.
I realize the ol'General is no slouch with motors, esp. the Vette Division,
but I would think they'd be spending time and dough to peel even more
weight off a very light car, fiddling with gear ratios for even better mpg
at cruise, sprucing up the interior without the "smaltz" catalog, refining
the gizmos before prod., (can you imagine the fix-it costs on the paddle
shifters about 4 yrs into ownership?!), etc., etc.
Again, I'm not some ol'anti-advancement geezer, stuck in time...and the
niche mkt these kinds of cars chase, is full of us boomers with dough.
It may well be the last of this decade for the last hooray of 400+ hp
cars. Speaking of golf carts, a Bud in Sebring has his electric cart modded
to the max: it does nearly 40, though the handling at that speed is suspect, lol!
