i think it's time for an upgrade.
as for the data, you still can pull info off the disk since what i'm thinking is that it's the hdd components and not the disk that failed.
i don't think it's their obligation to pay for the hdd because you brought your iBook in for hdd problems. but it doesn't hurt to fight for it
