As blown out of porportion as this whole thing may be, bottom line is,
Imus did the wrong thing. His comments were not just racist, they were mean.
CBS, despite their contract, did the right thing. Imus needed to be taken off the air. Not just to save face for the corporation but also because of the nature of the comments. It's one thing to be irrevrent, it's another to have malicious intent.
-- Yes, you do hear other radio broadcasters like Howard Stern making racial remarks but those are in good nature. Everyone unders the "spirit" of his comments. It's not always what you say, IT'S HOW YOU SAY IT. What is the SUBTEXT of the remarks?
I do not hope that Imus wins a thing and if he wanted to show that he's a real human being, he'd keep his mouth shout for a couple years and maybe try to re-enter entertainment when the bad taste has left everybody's mouth.
