An example of why such laws are needed is this:
Imagine a senerio where "Joe" has a small privately owned gas station in town. "Corporation X" owns all the other gas stations in the country except for Joe's station. So Corporation X decides that they will lower gas prices at the 3 gas stations nearest to Joe's to the point where those 3 stations will actually be losing money on each gallon. Corporation X decides that they are willing to lose money for 6 months -- the amount of time they determine that it will take for Joe's to go out of business. Then they will gain Joe's share of the market and make their loses back after he goes out of business.
See where this is heading?
Without such laws, small businesses cannot compete with large corporations who have deep pockets and can afford to lose money.
