While I appreciate the spirit of this effort, it's totally misguided.

For years, the left wing has been saying that we need higher gas prices to "break" American society of our culture of gas consumption.

Well, I don't think anyone would argue that they're here. And what's happened to our culture? Nothing.

We're not carpooling, riding public transportation, or seeking out alternative means of transportation any more than we have in the past.

All we're doing is complaining about it more.

Ok, insert boycott. For the sake of argument, let's suppose we do get a large percentage of the gas-purchasing population to boycott the purchase of gas for, hell, let's say three days. What will that do?

Nothing.

People will fill up before the boycott, and they'll fill up after the boycott. The people that have to travel (more than one tank-full of gas distance) will do so, and buy gas when they need it. All of which equals the same quantity of gas sold in a given month. Zero effect on the oil companies.

The bottom line is that the oil companies will not be effected by a boycott at all. Period.
