If you never see the red power light on the MKIV, it may be dead. At least it accepts and ejects the disks, which means it is getting power.

Another possible scenario is that the MKIV is coded for the monochrome system. A smart dealer can re-code it, or you can search-out a couple threads on this forum that explain how to modify the OS update disk to force it to load the OS for the color nav system.
