there are a few threads on this here and at bimmerfest (search on bluetooth). here's a recent one in the X3 forum at bimmerfest - there's a PDF there that will be very useful for you:

as it's noted in that thread, you do have to record the phone book separately as it will not interpret your voice commands to dial the phone numbers saved in your phone. if you haven't recorded anything in your X3's phone book, your phone book *is* empty.
pressing the voice control button briefly (releasing it before you hear the beep) redials the last number dialed on your phone. if that's the last number that was dialed on your phone, that's why you keep getting connected to that limo company.
