Toyota can build cheaper here because of lower labor costs in the south and no unions. I think you meant Automobiles only --The Foreign makers that manufacture cars here operate more efficiently and have less overhead (Ex: High paid executives and overpaid employees as we do) --Detroit cannot figure how to make cars like them so they just close plants, layoff workers and farm work to Asia and south of the border. Every year the "foreign content" of American nameplates goes up--Chevy is using Chinese built 4 cylinders in some models--lots of electrical and mechanical assemblies are made outside the US also (Cruise controls-radios--gps units--pumps--elec motors--AC compressors--etc..) So that decade is here now--
