I think many people added them for the looks more than for the functionality. However, for washing/detailing they are great.
Some complain that their pants get dirty when getting in and out of the car but I don't really have this problem.
For me, I give them 5 stars for looks. Maybe only 4 stars for functionality since I step over them more than I step on them. YMMV.
