The older Dension IceLink adapters do not work in the new vehicles for the same reason. Dension have a new box called a Gateway 500 for newer non-iBus BMW's, which now use fibre-optics.
So my suggestion is to hang around a little and let someone else work out the new BMW communication protocol before you try anything.

That's interesting. Now I'm somewhat confused.
I know the X5 no longer has the iBus system. But I thought the X3 still used it, no?
I didn't think there would be any changes util the X3's upcoming "make over"...
Maybe I'm more screwed up than I even know...
