Has anyone had tranny problems with there X5!!

I bought my X5 around 7 Months ago, 2 months ago I lost all drive! Trans Failsafe Prog. I replaced the gearbox with a secondhand box replaced all fluids flushed out oil cooler tc.. GREAT

Last Week trans broke Again!!!

I did some routing around and spoke to a lot of Transmission Pros.
The re-occurring theme being

The GM Box fitted in the X5 and others including the Range Rover isn't that great............seals shrink around the pistons causing the transmission to stick in 1st or 2nd then boils the ATF............

There are no mods for the box, most failures happened within warranty and were replaced free, I've heard that some Range Rovers are Failing at 20k - 30k.

What if it happens!! Obviously get it diagnosed. But if in doubt have the whole Transmission overhauled (its worth it) make sure you get a Warranty with the Reconditioned Box (12 Month or better still unlimited Miles).

I've had mine rebuilt for around £1200 and fitted it myself but you should be able to get it all done for around £1600 (UK)

Make sure you flush the Oil Cooler or it will happen again!!

I'm going to run the X5 for around a week then flush the box again and replace ATF just to be sure!!!

Don't buy a second hand box unless its been overhauled!!!
