Some CVTs can be configured to have 'steps'. Actually, not all CVTs suck, the one in the current Altima has gotten
excellent reviews, they say its better than the automatic. It is the first CVT that is actually good.
S-Class has 7-Speed Automatic.
Lexus LS460 has 8-Speed Auto (they wanted to have a bragging right for their less superior car)
