The conservative radio talk show hosts would complmain that our tax money is paying for illegal alliens to breath our air.
On the other hand, socialist countries would just allow everyone to breath the air. No ownership of the air, no tax money to pay for the air, no cost for the meters to measure the air, and no profit made from people breathing.
The capitalist economists would calculate that the air industry in the United States totals $200 billion, and of course would count that figure when they calculate our GDP and the size & growth of our economy.
Sorry for the thread drift. You make fun of my ideas, but you just don't realize that most of how our economy works is not much different than this kooky example. You are just used to it, so it doesn't appear to you as being wasteful and rediculous.

Yeah - socialism. What a way to run a country.
Wash Post Link
President Hugo Chavez's administration blames the food supply problems on unscrupulous speculators, but industry officials say government price controls that strangle profits are responsible.
...
Shortages have sporadically appeared with items from milk to coffee since early 2003, when Chavez began regulating prices for 400 basic products as a way to counter inflation and protect the poor.
Yet inflation has soared to an accumulated 78 percent in the last four years in an economy awash in petrodollars, and food prices have increased particularly swiftly, creating a widening discrepancy between official prices and the true cost of getting goods to market in Venezuela.
Let's have more of that. Of course, with all the tax dollars, when people are dying of starvation, at least they can die in a hospital for free.
