East Side Power Outages
NWE YORK (WCBS 880) -- 135,000 customer have been affected by a 'rolling blackout' in the Upper East Side - 80's around York Ave and Madison. The MTA is telling us the following subway lines are being affected: 4,5,6,V,D,E. Also, we are getting word the Metro-North is experiencing delays and are operating on a backup generator. Reporter Marla Diamond is learning the extent could be as broad as from the South Bronx/ East Harlem down to East Village. Stay with us as we get you the latest information on this situation.
``There's something happening on the Upper East Side. I can't tell you how big it is yet,'' said Bob Magee, a spokesman for Consolidated Edison.
Residents said traffic lights were out for 20 blocks on Lexington Avenue between the 60s and the 80s, while others said that the East Side subway lines weren't operating.
Con Edison couldn't say how many customers had lost power. The city was in the second day of temperatures well over 90 degrees.
