I respect all of the posters who say get the 4.4 or 4.6, and who don't think the 3.0 has sufficient power. However, in a previous life, many years ago, I had an Explorer (with 140 hp) and the vehicle weights and use patterns are similar, so the 225 hp 3.0 seems fine to me. If I wanted a fast vehicle, I wouldn't start with an X5, I would start with something much lighter. This board is full of enthusiasts who are fans of the V8, and that is great. However, the E53 3.0 outsold the 4.4 two to one, and yes, it is more reliable and cheaper to fix. Just one man's opinion. Now, if you need that extra second on your way to 60 mph, go buy the 4.4 and be happy everafter.
