Everything you say here is true. Except this one statement. I did not "forget" this. In fact, this is news to me. Care to give some of the details. My recollection of the many books I have read on the Six Day War in 1967 is that Israel attacked Egypt to start the war, and then attacked Syria and Jordan shortly afterwards, and even attacked a United States Naval Ship killing most of the crew during this short war.
Just because I am Jewish does not mean I condone evil behavior by other Jews. Yes, I think Israel has a right to exist, and should exist. But the way they went about forming the state, and the way they went about expanding the state were both very wrong. Uprooting 500,000 civilians from their homes by force in 1947, and then not allowing those people to return to their homes, was not an acceptable way to form a Jewish state. Palestine had absolutely nothing to do with the Holocaust. If anyone should have been uprooted from their homes to form a Jewish State, it should have been some Germans.
I know you think having Israel helps us as Jews, but Israel's behavior over the years has actually caused an increase in anti-sematism. After the Holocaust, Jews were seen as victims and there was good will received from countries all over the world. It is not true that none of the other countries would take them. More Jews came to the United States after the Holocaust than went to Israel, and many many thousands went to other countries such as Britain and Brazil. But in the same way our government's behavior has squandered any good will we received after the 9/11 attacks, Israel over the years has squandered any good will Jews received after the Holocaust. Most of the people in the world no longer see Jews as victims but instead see the Palestineans as the victims, and the Jews as the abusers.
I'll also add that it is a shame that most of the world relate Israel's behavior to the behavior of all Jews, and that criticism of Israel is considered a form of anti-Sematism.
As for your statement above when did you say "I'm against tax money going to pay for health care for my fellow Americans." The entire discussion of another thread the past few days has been based on that subject, and you along with most of the others have argued that you don't want your tax money to go for free health care for everyone -- the same system they have in Israel and ALL other industrialized countries in the world. Instead, you guys insist that all the other countries are wrong and our system, the same system used by most of the countries in Africa and the third world, is actually the better system. I certainly disagree.
