Even if it doesn't show damage immediately I would think that it could cause long term damage like color fading and degradation of the plastic. I think it eats plastics. There are plastic-safe versions but most of it will be bad. Plus it smells!
Stick with dedicated cleaners for car interiors like 1Z or at most something like Adam's All-purpose cleaner.

It definately can be bad if not used carefuly, but i do it every day and have never personally had a mistake using it. I did se someone try and use it on the leather door inserts and that wasn't a pretty result. The only reason i even suggest it is that sometimes interior cleaners can't take everything out that can be removed with thinner. Again, i wouldn't say to go nuts with it in your car but it is a quick way to remove scuffs on plastic.
