I text whilst driving. I am 32. I can text without looking at the phone, this includes selecting that I want to type a text, typing it, and selecting who i want to send it to. there is the odd typo, but not many. I can send a text message to somebody without looking in the same way that I can type without looking. However, if I want to change my iDrive from FM radio to MP3, find the folder I want, and find the song I want, I cannot do this without looking. So - which is more dangerous, texting or iDrive...
So, who here speeds... or talks on a hands free phone whilst driving... or swaps CD or uses iDrive whilst driving... etc etc. Things need to be put in context and perspective, not everybody (especially "young people") need to stare at a mobile phone in order to send a message. For me, it is certainly no more dangerous - infact I would honestly say less dangerous - than using the iDrive which _does_ require my eyes to be taken off the road.
