The roads near our house are narrow, windy, and have about a 2 inch drop off at the edge of the road pavement. She was pregnant at the time and just found out the fetus had died. She was upset and not paying attention and just barely ran off the road, but that was enough for the road edge to bang into both rims on the passenger side and damage them.

I'm not sure beating her would have been the proper response.
