I have been an avid BMW driver since 1984. I love my X5 and plan on keeping it for some time.

But I have always been a fan of the Porsche Boxster from afar and am considering getting one (a black 2005) as a second car. I have never owned a Porsche and would appreciate input from fellow BMW drivers on the merits of the Boxster. I would probably drive it around 5K miles per year.

I live in San Diego so the weather is conducive to driving a convertible. The downside is the car would not be garaged. Therefore I have concerns regarding keeping the soft top in shape.
