This is my second X3 and both had difficulty (more than my other BMWs) at adapting to my driving style. Once they did, that "hard shift" or even "unusual shift" seemed to all but go away. One suggestion is to have BMW (dealership) reset the transmission and now that your engine is broken in, the tranny can learn to adapt to your real driving style - not the break in driving style. Either that or just keep on it and eventually your tranny should adapt to you and your driving style.
As for the wipers, that is becoming more common. My Z3 was the same and what you have to do is turn the key on, turn the wipers on and just as they hit mid-position on the windshiled turn off the key. You can then swap out or clean the wipers. Once completed, turn the key back on and they should go back to normal position by themselves.
