There are tricks to the system.. ANd many people feel like a hostage to the credit card companies.. And they need not.
I'm not going to advise my friends how to fix their credit, I am not a credit expert. But the people they can hire are credit experts. And if they spend $500 to clean their credit before they go to buy a car or a home, that money will come back to them in multiples.

Talk to the bank and see if they offer services, some do. Some mortgage places do as well... not that it helps, but I know Omni Mortgage in Tulsa partnered with an agency like the ones you are talking about. Personally, I would stay away from "Doctor [insert fancy credit repair name here]"
