The newer OS release give several usability improvements, including:
- Split screen view (shows map & turn instructions simultaneously)
- Improved screen fonts and clarity
- More routing options
- Better use of colors and point of interest icons
- Menus better organized and more intuitive
It will not affect radio use at all. The difference is that your radio now shows the On-Board Computer information in the lower portion of the radio screen. You will lose the OBC view with the radio, but you still have the OBC menu option. The plus is that you gain the split screen view that shows turn instructions simultaneously with the map view.
Also, showing distances in meters versus feet or yards is a setting in the main navigation "SETTINGS" menu. So, the OS upgrade will not affect that at all.
