Ok folks first of all the unit with the broken connector doesn't have a bmw part # it's a motorola kit # SYN8486A. I looked this up as best I could and I think it's a bluetooth kit but i'm not sure. I'm going to try to borrow a digital cam from my office over the weekend to upload some pics. I'm probably not going to do much with it until after my trip because as I said I don't want to kill the radio again and not have it for the trip. Brian thanks so much for the info on the cost of nav drives because I think if i'm going to replace it I will go to the Mk IV. My only concern is the gps antennae. My nav drive I assume from what you said is MkII because it has the bump up on the top with extra connectors hooked up but they aren't coax it just has the one coax in the bottom back of the unit. I know this is difficult without me putting pix up so I will try to resolve that issue this weekend. I appreciate all your help gentlemen as it seems to me that you know more about these systems than the dealer does! I wouldn't go through all this crap with the nav as external ones like tom tom are reasonably priced but without it apparently I can't get into the menu's for the radio and trip computer to set distance and reset MPG etc... I miss the old 7 series system with the numeric keypad so I would at least be able to set date/time.
