I used the metal key with my regular comfort access key, not the spare plastic one (which was in the house).

I tried using the remote -- no impact, settings gone. I've reprogrammed everything and tried switching back and forth with my wife's and it is working again now. Not sure I want to try testing it again by pulling out the metal key again.
