QwkAg,
This thread passed me by...not sure I have any sage or cogent commentary on it, as the article is a bit disjointed and full of
ranting opins.
Here are my ramblings:
-Walking is good exercise, but some courses are extremely difficult
to walk; our track here offers cart rides on 2 different holes, from
green to next tee, to the high school and college amateurs playing
here. Few refuse the ride if they have played here before.
-Carts are a good profit margin center for most courses, public or
private. (Golf tracks don't run on goodwill, tradition, etc.; they run
on large to huge sums of money to keep them going and, in shape.)
-The Touring Pros walk, as they should. Most Senior Pros walk sometimes.
-Most big time amateur tourn. players walk.
-On flat azz courses, it is not a tough deal for the semi-fit; on mtn courses
or courses that have the next tee 200-300+ yards from previous green, those
tracks are designed for carts, imo.
-Most courses can set their own rules; if JoeShitIMustWalk doesn't
like it, go to a course that allows it.
-Carts are a huge profit margin center...
-Some guys like to ice fish with a tip up, sitting on a bucket; some
like to sit in a shed with a heater and a hot toddy; "purism" in
hobbies and "sports" activities is way overblown, imo.
My 25Cts is up...Haigha, mdk and the other real golfers here may have
better opins.; I've only been at this game 5 1/2 years.
