It is actually up to the manufacturers to work with BMW to make these. Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Siemens are active in developing for BMW. The other manufactures could care less.
For example, Samsung was working with BMW on A2DP 2 years ago, and we have never heard from that since. It is mostly the Euro phone guys who are interested in this stuff.
The phones for the US are driven by the big carriers such as SPRINT and Verizon. I used to be at QUALCOMM and actually worked on the product management side of things developing phones and phone accessories. I was in countless meetings with both carriers and worked closely with the top guys in the handset division. I can say for a fact that everything that is driven by the carriers these days and Sprint and Verizon could care less about car kits especially when targeted to one brand. The only reason we see ANY snap in adapters are these are driven by European demand and only phones that are in both US and Europe aside from a few exceptions like V710.
