Just trying to decide whether I want to pony up for this option on my '08 X5. If it's still an ongoing problem, I'll just use the AUX port and put the extra $$$ in my pocket.

I have the 6FL option and suffers the dropping out to FM issue. This
will be resolved and the sooner the better in my opinion. It is an excellent feature and far superior to the basic aux input. SPEC IT!
I was promised a software upgrade in September to resolve this issue...
...still waiting!! September is a busy month for Stealers in the UK and no doubt my "already bought and paid for X5" has slipped waaaaaay down the priorities list in favour of more new sales.
