I have not heard anythig like that. I think he just wants you to buy the X5 now rather than wait. Dealers do these games a lot. Not the first time I have heard of this.
Let's see, X5 debut was August 8th, 2006. X5 was in showrooms mid-November, 2006. Both X5 and X6 are made in Spartanburg. If X6 was built in Germany, then you could say that it will be a while. This should give you an idea.

I was speaking to him on the phone so did not see the fax personally. However he is not bmw Tech savvy, so he would not have said 4.4 engine for the X6 in the summer and then questioned if it was a typo because he expected it to say 4.8.
From what the other posts have said above regarding bi turbo engines, I am enclined to believe this is true. The delay might be in the engine production itself, since I have no heard of the 4.4 turbo.
