Cruising range and average speed

My 2004 X5 3.0 shows 34.9 L/100km (canadian) as the cruising range..which would be whacko right?

The Energy Control under RPM Tachometer seems to show the right amount when accelarting or cruising...but whats with the cruising range?

In the BMW manual its listed as:

Cruising range and average speed
The computer bases its calculations of the cruising range on the previous driving style and conditions.
The computer ignores any time spent with the vehicle stationary and the engine switched off in its average speed calculations.
