We have done the entire BRPkway several times, both in cars and on
an M'cycle. The northern section, "Skyline Drive" is ok...not great, but
a decent day or day/night cruise. It is narrow comparatively, and in
some occasional suspect repair as parts of it are chip/tar as opposed
to black top. Deer are numerous at all times of day/night. Speed is
a stupid 35. But, some decent low alt, long range views, some nice
cruising and a good day or 2 trip.
The "real" Blue Ridge Parkway, imo, starts in northern NC and the
best section of the 469 mile road is the last 60ish from Asheville to Cherokee.
I live 20 mins from the lower end and run long stretches of it with great regularity;
it is a marvel of engineering/road building and there is not a stop sign or red light for
all of its length.
All sections of the BRP tend to be crowded on weekends, so if you can cop a
weekday or two, that is rec'd.
Some links for your perusal, below...and, if you have more questions,
I consider myself a knowledgeable BRPkway addict.
