How old is your laptop, Michelle? Is it out of warranty? Is it worth keeping?

Power problems with a laptop could be anything. As mentioned, it's very likely that it might be your power supply but it could also be a fried motherboard. You don't want to start buying replacement parts without knowing the specific problem.

You might be better off chucking the old laptop (depending on its age) and getting a new one. You can always pull out your old drive, stick it in a 2.5" USB enclosure or in another laptop to recover your data.
