When the marines detained several Iranian diplomats (not soldiers) who were in Baghdad at the invitation of the Iraqi government a few months back, the media used the term "captured".
When Hezbollah captured and Israeli soldier last year, they called him "kidnapped". (yes, he was a soldier).
There seems to be no consistancy in the terms, other than the "bad guys" kidnap hostages, while the "good guys" capture prisoners.
