Anyways,
I have a 2001 BMW x5 3.0 standard
, 60,000miles.
The fuel gauge is acting up:
-It moves when you turn on the key.
-Its been reading about ¼ tank.
-It was working normal the other day... Now it's back to 1/4th.
After some Google searching I found this.

If this is the problem,
I would like to take a shot at cleaning up the "
non-conducting deposit" (corrosion?) on the contacts of the sending unit before resorting to the repair shop.
Can somebody explain how to get to this thing?
So far:
-I do not know the shape or exact location of the fuel tank (I can’t find Google pictures)
-I popped off the right side of the cargo bay + a cushion between the seat and door
-I can only see a small part of the tank. (No connections visible)
-I do not want to spend hours popping off random panels.
-I am open to all suggestions or help anybody is willing to give.
