Sounds like you've got the process down.


Clear the homelink buttons in the car (hold down the 1/3 button till the light blinks)
Press the learn button on the unit
In 30 seconds press the Homelink button in the car along with the remote
I found that on some BMW's you need to push the homelink button prior to hitting the remote

Try a couple more times.
