First, clear the Homelink system in the car by pressing the 1/3 button simultaneously. That will clear out any codes so that they unit in the car is blank to accept new codes.

Then press your learn button on the garage door opener (really easier if you use two people here).

Then go to the unit in the car and press the button for Homelink and the button on the hand held remote.

As I said some are tricky. My X5 was slightly different from my 645.
