Hey True, where did you get your info. on the mag safe? Do you have a link? I believe what you are referring to is a very isolated and possibly outdated issue.
As far as cleaning goes, I use Home Depot's Zap alcohol based aerosol foam glass cleaner and a good Wayne's microfiber towell. I spray the towell lightly then wipe her down for a perfect cleaning every time
