There are some "better" people running in both main political parties, but because they don't kiss ass to all the big special interests, they raise very little campaign money and do not attract very much attention. There are also about a dozen or so "third party" candidates who will run for president as well. So don't complain that you can't find a candidate you like. Vote your conscience. Don't vote based on who you think can or will win. And certainly do NOT vote for the lesser of two evils.
Keep in mind that there are billions of dollars spent each year on
PR by the big lobbies and special interests with the sole goal of shaping your opinions. And while I'm sure all of you think you are not affected one bit by it and are still able to make independent decisions, it's not true. We are all affected by it. They don't spend those billions of dollars for nothing, and they are not stupid. They spend the money because they know it is effective, just as they know it is effective to give large campaign donations to the major candidates. It puts presure on those candidates to support their interests, and it IS effective.
But just perhaps, the "big" issues that the media is talking about at the moment are not really big issues at all, but are what the special interests want you to think are the big issues of our time. Meanwhile, the really important stuff that WILL affect your life in a big way gets swept under the rug.
Keep that in mind next time you choose the candidate you are going to vote for.
