2003+ 4Runner is nothing to write home about. Versatile, but clunky, and drives like a truck. V8 is not worth it. V6 is hampered by 4-sp auto, but it sufficiently quick.

It's a Ford, enough said. Had an 07 Taurus rental last week, with less than 10k on the odo. Front-end literally felt like it was falling apart. Power steering suddenly surging on/off while driving.
Michelle, if your sis goes for a 03+ 4Runner, make sure she gets a Sport model. It's got hydraulically controlled anti-roll bars, that really make it handle pretty well. Btw, there are TRD (Toyota Racing Development) superchargers available for all 96+ 4Runner's.
