No, do not write at 1x, but write at the burning speed that your CD supports, then verify the quality of the disc after the burn
Burning at 1x results in a bad burn on some blanks and some drives. I have had bad results from a 1x burn.
I always
a) burn at the speed my CD supports - ImgBurn tells me the supported speeds, I select normally 16x
b) verify new disc is error free with imgBurn
c) verify surface of new CD is good using Nero CD-DVD Speed
d) check quality of disc and quantity of errors using Nero CD-DVD Speed, typical is a quality score of > 96%. I reject any disc with C2 errors, and accept discs with <100 C1 errors.
If I burnt at 1x, the disc would fail the surface scan test.
