On the Ed Norris show they were having call-ins by pilots about airport security. They all said the same thing, total unnecessary BS. They were far more concerned with small aircraft and air space regulations then whether a passenger might hijack or smuggle something on the plane. So IMO a combination of REAL security measures in an airport and REAL policy would solve the problem. For starters, I'd remove any and all carry on luggage..period. I might make exceptions for trips over 2.5 hours for items such as laptops or MP3 type devices. IMO security measures should not be guided by how 'convenient' they are and there is NO reason for you to be at an airport 3 hours prior to a flight.
