What you are looking to do is very similar to the setup that Drex has in his 4.6is. See

You'll want to install the BMW Aux input kit, and also the TVonNav system. The TVonNav system allows you to view the DVD on your front screen (which can also be displayed on the rear screens) and send the audio in full stereo through the factory sound system (with DSP, if you have it)
