adrian.b, can you programme the heater with a timer via the OBC screen?

It seems to me that there are 2 methods of operation, via the screen and/or via the remote, but the former is only possible if the aforementioned 'bar' has been removed, otherwise heating control is limited to the remote.

john4231618, I would prefer to use the aux heater than simply running the car since while doing that the car is very vulnerable, unlocked, keys in and running - very convenient for the light-fingered. Also, if the build up of fumes in a garage is of concern, then running a 3 litre engine will create the problem far quicker. I am also keen to have control by timer and by remote - beats having to go out and start the car myself:-)

Then there's the issue of having such a desirable option already fitted to the car but currently I cannot make use of it.

Has anyone any idea if the re-programming to remove the 'bar' and allow heater control by timer can be done via laptop, i.e. avoiding the necessity of involving the dealer and the inevitable cost? £390 just for a remote is already stretching the bounds of acceptability.
The wife is out in the car at the mo, but I`m sure I can set TWO timers on the OBC for the heater and just blown air without heat.

I`m pretty sure a retro fit is very possible, but as mine already had one I didnt need to worry about that.

£390 isnt just for the remote, you have to install the remote reciever in to the electrics area in the boot under the spare and then route and stick an antenna on to one of the rear windows (usualy right hand side rear window).

Also you can program the remote to COOL the car in the summer months instead of heat it. It simply blows cold air from outisde (or cooler anyway) in to the cabin, it doesnt turn on air con etc.

Hope this helps.
